PHILSTAR: Vice President Jejomar Binay agreed with Mupas that the evidence presented by prosecutors against the former president is weak. Binay said bail is granted to an accused if the evidence presented is weak, even if the case is a capital offense.
"In court,even if the charge is a capital offense, like election violation, regardless of the fact that the penalty is capital punishment once the evidence is weak, bail is granted," Binay said.

Hiniling nga namin na i-suspend ang proceedings kasi hindi pa tapos ang prelim investigation. Inapura na naman ito ng Ombudsman. Hindi kami nabigyan ng kopya ng resolution para sana makapaghain kami ng motion for reconsideration. Wala kaming ibang kaso na kasing-bigat nito na nakabinbin sa DOJ o sa Ombudsman.

SWS - Ratings dip for govt MAY 24-27 SURVEY - The May 24-27 poll found 63% of the respondents saying they were pleased with the government's general performance, compared to the 18% who said otherwise, for a "good" satisfaction rating of +44 (correctly rounded), DOWN from March's similarly  "good" +46%. It was the Aquino government's LOWEST net rating so far, well below its record +64 in September and November 2010. A palace official claimed the survey showed continued general satisfaction, while an analyst said it also reflected a growing impatience.

Meanwhile, P-NOY may claim that his "wang-wang" campaign is gaining ground, but, the "bang bang" state of impunity that has abetted countless extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances goes on. Meanwhile, in the past 2 years, the number of Filipinos leaving the country to seek employment abroad - even in highly dangerous territories like Syria - rose to an annual average of 1.4 million, again, higher than in previous administrations: Arroyo at 1 million; Estrada at 0.84 million; Ramos at 0.69 million and Cory Aquino at 0.47 million. With nearly 5,000 Filipinos leaving for employment abroad, the country's economic survival is, expectedly, becoming even more dependent on OFW remittances, plus tourism, foreign investments (especially in destructive industries like mining) and more borrowings.

Before P-NOY occupied Malacañang, the country's poverty incidence was 43 percent. Yet, despite the billions and billions of pesos poured into the government's Conditional Cash Transfer program, in the first quarter of 2012, 55 percent of Filipino families said that they were poor, compared to 45 percent in December 2011. Some 11.1 million families see themselves poorer in 2012 compared to 9.1 million in 2011. This only shows that temporary relief measures, including doles, cannot stamp out poverty and hunger.

Emeritus Oscar Cruz said he will pray for the former president and said she should take care of her health. He reminded the Aquino administration that there should be justice instead of vengeance.

ABS-ACB: Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño admitted that he was surprised with the timing of the plunder case, noting that he filed the case with Ombudsman last year. Former Senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr. said Mrs. Arroyo should also be given some consideration because of her failing health.

The NSO's Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries showed factory output, as measured by the volume of production index, easing to 3.1%, the SLOWEST since March's 8.9% and DOWN from April's revised 3.3%.

GMA7: A lawyer of fomer Pres Gloria M-Arroyo accused the Aquino administration of exhausting every means to keep his client detained. lawyer Ferdinand Topacio said the latest plunder case against Mrs. Arroyo for supposed misuse of PCSO funds during her incumbency was filed not based on merit but for the "sole purpose" of preventing her to gain temporary liberty. "Sadly the Constitution is but selectively applied by the present government: swift exoneration for its allies, while strict and excruciating bending of the rules against its political opponents, is the order of the day. We are no longer in danger of dictatorship; it is now wholly upon us." 

GMA7: Atty Ferdie Topacio claimed the latest plunder case was "hurriedly" set in motion by "self-anointed public guardians" since the electoral sabotage against the former president is about to collapse. "The pattern is now clear: file every flimsy non-bailable charge against Mrs. Arroyo one after the other, so that even if they are later on proven baseless, then at least the damage has already been done by way of detaining her without bail," Topacio said. But Mrs. Arroyo's lawyer said he was keeping his faith in the independence of the judiciary, which he hoped would act as a "final bulwark of the people's civil and political rights."
