MLA STANDARD EDITORIAL: DISGUSTING INACTION
The tragedy in North Borneo should unite us, not divide us. The correct strategy is to harness people's power and learn the lessons of this incident so we can come together as a nation. How to do it responsibly, however, is another matter. Unfortunately, we cannot achieve anything as long as our key leaders are doing nothing but blame other for the fiasco.
PHILSTAR: DICK PASCUAL
- WHERE'S MILF?: There is nothing but deafening silence from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front that MalacaƱang recognizes are THE VOICE AND REPRESENTATIVE of the Muslim population. At this time when Filipino Muslims are being violently uprooted from  their supposed voice and protectors should at least SAY SOMETHING, if it is TOO CONFUSED TO DO SOMETHING.
PHILSTAR: DICK PASCUAL
The President made a mistake signing their papers? What was the screening committee doing? Or was it overruled by Liberal Party lobbyist who want to stuff the Comelec with their people? Wee, at least former Lanao del Sur Rep. Macabangkit Lanto, one of those who had declined their appointment to the poll body, DID NOT DO A PADACA. Grace Padaca accepted her Comelec appointment with alacrity, then used the immunity granted to members of constitutional bodies to insist on the dropping of old graft charges against her.
INTERAKSYON TV: KIRAMS DISOWN 'DISENGAGEMENT'
Members of the Kiram family denied considering "disengagement" as announced Monday by Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II after talks with Sultan Bantilan Esmail Kiram II. brother of Sulu Sultanate Jamalul Kiram III. Earlier, the sultanate's spokesman, Abraham Idjirani, said although the Kirams had authorized the dialogue between Esmail and Roxas, it was the Interior secretary who unilaterally mentioned "disengagement" and that the notion had not been discussed by the family.
INTERAKSYON TV:
The National Bureau of Investigation SERVED subpoenas on Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III and members of his family but JUST AS QUICKLY WITHDREW these because they "don't want to embarrass the family." The subpoenas were supposed to be in compliance with President Benigno Aquino III's order to investigate what he claims is a "conspiracy" to instigate the sultan to order his followers to Sabah and press their historical claim to the territory.

MLA STANDARD: QUEZON SOLON REACTS TO PNOY "We can't do anything if people of Quezon want us."
This was the statement of House Minority Leader and Rep. Danilo Suarez on President Aquino's criticism against him and his family for lording it over the third district of Quezon province for several years now while serving only their personal interests. "The fact that we always get elected only shows that the people of Quezon wants us," Suarez told the Manila Standard.
MLA STANDARD EDITORIAL: NEITHER MOOT NOR ACADEMIC
WHEN will Filipinos finally wake up and realize that the President has pulled a fast one on  them? That he is, after all, ill-equipped both intellectually and ethically for the high office that he holds? Three years into his administration, President Benigno Aquino III is still behaving as if each working day at the Palace were amateur hour, and that he can bully and bumble his way through any problem.
MLA STANDARD: CUSTOMS TAKE FALLS SHORT AGAIN
The Customs bureau FAILED to meet its P24 billion target for the month of February as it had been falling short since Commissioner Ruffy Biazon took over the post in September 2011. The bureau managed to hit its goal in January 2013 but only after its original target was lowered, records showed. The February shortfall came DESPITE THE LOWERING OF MONTHLY COLLECTION GOAL that started last January for the district collectors to be able to come up with good performance.
MLA STANDARD EDITORIAL: ANOTHER BLUNDER
There are reports that the Palace hailed Lanto's refusal of the post. This leaves us baffled: Why on earth would you appoint somebody and then praise him for not accepting that appointment? Perhaps the President is just relieved that Lanto solved his problem for him. Sure, Mr. Aquino has a lot on his mind with the Sabah issue getting out of hand, in great part because of his ineptitude in handling the crisis. But presidents are still expected to make sound decisions despite the existence of other fires. Unfortunately for us, all the President has been showing is one blunder after another.
MLA STANDARD: DUREZA: ATROCITIES SCUTTLE PEACE TALKS
Malaysia's role as a neutral facilitator of the peace talks between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front is now "blown to pieces" following the reports of summary executions and human rights violations against Filipinos in Sabah, a former government chief negotiator for the peace talks with the MILF said Tuesday. "One of the major casualties of the Sabah incident is the MILF peace negotiations," Jesus Dureza said. Dureza said the "violent operations against Filipino Muslims in Lahad Datu" had cast a shadow of doubt on Malaysia as a CREDIBLE peace talks broker.

TRIBUNE: The country's foreign direct investments (FDIs) for December 2012 SLID DOWN by 40 percent to just $20 million from $28 million in December 2011. However, it is very alarming for the FDI to hit only $28 million in December 2012 if the figure was over $100 million in November 2012. The figure for November 2012 was 72 percent lower than November 2011 when it was over $300 million. FDI is a direct investment into production or business in a country by a company in another country, either by buying a company in the target country or by expanding operations of an existing business in that country.
MLA STANDARD: 'PALACE FABRICATED SABAH CONSPIRACY'. Quoting an unnamed media source, Saycon said Carandang also tried to link Jose Conjuangco Jr., the Marcos family, and former Pres Gloria Arroyo to the plot. "I have never talked to Marcos who put me in jail. I saw former National Security Adviser Bert Gonzales visited Kiram, but we never talked. Gloria (Arroyo) filed libel cases against me in Manila. So how can there be conspiracy among us?" he asked.

As a result of the protest, Comelec ruled Dy as WINNER and DENIED Padaca, who was accused of cheating, her second term as governor. De Lima was Padaca's election lawyer then. Aquino, who became president in 2010, later named THE LOSERS PADACA and DE LIMA to government posts.
BUSINESSWORLD: Focus urged on 'growing better' MARKET PLAYERS yesterday called on the government to ensure that the country's growth momentum is sustained by focusing not just on achieving a faster pace but also on "GROWING BETTER." The challenge is to bring it to 7% in next 10 years," International Monetary Fund (IMF) Asia-Pacific Director Anoop Singh said at the Philippine Investment Forum. MLA STANDARD: JOJO ROBLES - DRILON TURNS LESS FRANK
The usually loquacious Drilon was as QUIET as a mouse, when it came to light that he was the main backer of Macabangkit Lanto, one of two new election commissioners appointed by Pres Noynoy Aquino. Come on, senator. Tell us id you knew Lanto's checkered past and HOW you convinced Aquino to appoint him. You can even say that you'd never dream of embarrassing the President. Just DON'T ASK him TO MOVE to Iloilo because the people there LOVE HIM.
