INQUIRER: Magdalo soldiers ask court: Why are we jailed and Honasan is free? In a 26-page memorandum, First Lieutenants Lawrence San Juan and Rex C. Bolo asked the Makati RTC to acquit them of the charge of committing coup d'etat. At the same time, they questioned why plot's alleged mastermind, Sen. Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan, was cleared early on while the case against them was continued.

INQUIRER: The Philippine Embassy in Kuwait has been barred from directly sending information on cases of Filipino migrant workers to Vice President Jejomar Binay, a "disappointing" directive that has slowed down his office's response to overseas Filipino workers cases it receives every day. In his memo to the Kuwait post on July 11, just a few days before his posting in Geneva, Conejos cited the sensitivity and confidentiality of OFW cases in instructing the embassy to stop directly forwarding reports to the OVP and other agencies.
ISSUE: SENATE LEADERSHIP (8:47-8:54 - Latigo ni Melchor - RMN) by M. Balabas - Interview with Sen. Pres. Juan Ponce Enrile

Director Diosdado Calonge of the Ombudsman told the Sandiganbayan that the former president should not be accorded the COMFORT of staying at the VMMC when there is no compelling reason to do so. MR CALONGE, CAN YOU CALL STAYING IN THE HOSPITAL A COMFORT? A PATIENT IS ADMITTED IN A HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT OF ALL DISCOMFORTS LIKE SICKNESS, INABILITY TO MOVE NORMALLY, WEIGHT LOSS, NUMBNESS, DEHYDRATION, PAIN WHEN SWALLING AND BREATHING, and YOU CALL ALL THAT "COMFORT"?

ANC: Former Pres and now REp. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will stay at the VMMC in QC until next week as the Sandiganbayan deferred it's ruling on motions on her hospital arrest. Mrs. Arroyo's lawyer, Anacleto Diaz, meanwhile told the anti-graft court that the med bulletin should not be the only basis for determining if the former pres is fit to be transferred to a regular jail. The defense had said that Arroyo has also been suffering from a spine problem. It has also cited the former president's drastic weight loss and inability to swallow as reasons for her to remain at the government hospital. The Sandiganbayan First Division suspended the hearing and rescheduled it to October 18 at 1:30 p.m. Both camps were told to present witnesses in the next hearing.

ABS-CBN: The lawyers of former Pres Gloria M. Arroyo have informed the justices of the Sandiganbayan today that they will go to the Supreme Court to question the lower court's basis to try the former president for the crime of plunder. Atty. Anacleto Diaz approached the justices at the bench during the latter part of Thursday's hearing asking them to defer the October 15 arraignment of Arroyo and other detained respondents, saying they will file a petition for certiorari at the high court.
