TRIBUNE: POLL VICTORY VINDICATES GMA - LAKAS EXEC
The overwhelming victory of former Pres and now Pamp Rep. Gloria M-Arroyo in her re-election bid is a vindication for the former head of state, a top official of Lakas Party yesterday said. "Despite not being able to campaign as she is currently under hospital arrest, the former pres won because of her track record," Lakas president and Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said. Meanwhile, the former president's son, CamSur Rep. Diosdado "Dato" Arroyo, also won in his reelection bid, besting outgoing provincial Gov. Luis "LRay" Villafuerte. The younger Arroyo also of Lakas Party garnered a total of 65,926 votes against Villafuerte's 57,436 votes for a winning margin of 8,490 votes. He was proclaimed winner by the Commission on Elections shortly before noon yesterday.

Arroyo (Lakas), who garnered a total of 65,926 votes, was proclaimed winner by the provincial board of canvassers at 11:30 a.m. with a margin of 8,490 votes over Villafuerte (Nationalista Party), his closest challenger.

Former President and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was proclaimed winner in the province's 2nd district congressional race on Thursday night. Arroyo won by a landslide with 168,718 votes over the Liberal Party's Vivian Dabu, who received 18,547 votes. Arroyo, who is under hospital arrest, was represented by her legal counsel. Atty. Arroyo (Lakas), who garnered a total of 65,926 votes, was proclaimed winner by the provincial board of canvassers at 11:30 a.m. with a margin of 8,490 votes while the third candidate, Sabas Mabulo (Liberal Party), got 7,094.
ANC: NAMFREL expects the canvassing to take 20-25 days before all winners are proclaimed. The poll watchdog blames the slow transmission of votes, which it says, has left as many 11 millions votes unaccounted for. NAMFREL Sec Gen Eric Alvia add, the 'lost' votes could still affect the standings of the senatorial race. 'Kontra Daya' meanwhile criticizes the Comelec for hailing the midterm polls, a success.
