ANC: Atty. Karen Jimeno: Defense ready to explain in closing arguments why CJ's non-disclosure of some assets in his SALN is not an impeachable offense.
Sunday, May 27, 2012
DZMM: Def Spokesman Atty. (Pag-apela sa SC) Merong suggestion niyan before . We are not focused on it but we would rather want a fair trial.
Defense spokesperson Atty. Karen Jimeno as ABS CBN: Ang mag-a-argue for the closing ay ang aming lead counsel na si Atty. S. Cuevas at sasamahansiya ni Dean Angeles.
TRIBUNE: Noynoy does not care whether a person is guilty or innocent. What is important to him is what guilty or not, as long as that individual is seen as his foe, he wants him demonized, tear to pieces his reputation and see him suffer. As Noynoy's psychological evaluation report of old stated, he believes it is only in his attaining political power that he can make people who have brought him and his family pain and suffering pay --as he is apparently making them pay today.
ABS CBN NEWS: Corona's call has also snowballed in social networking sites. A group has created a page in Facebook called "Sign CJ Corona's waiver (For the 188 Congressmen an Drilon). The group said "This is not a support page to CJ Corona, but a page that saw a chance to identify who really is corrupt and who's not. It's not everyday we can ask a Chief Justice, a Senator and 188 Congressmen to sign a waiver opening their bank accounts in public....Take the challenge! Sign the waiver! Come out clean!
BLOG: They thought the Chief Justice will fold and fade away in oblivion. unfortunately, he fought them even on uneven terms. now that their dare has been called by the chief justice...they can no longer hide behind their flimsy excuse that "they were not on trial here". even all of the senator judges won't act on it because if they do...they will open a can of worms that will surely bring them all down. indeed, hypocrisy is written all over their faces.
FR RANI AQUINO: When a SALN is inaccurate there may be blame worthiness. But does this rise to the level of a constitutional offense? Does it render the office-holder completely unfit for office, that the only recourse of the nation is to unseat him? And if it is the case that it is not his SALN alone that is accurate but that of his accusers as well, then do we not apply the laws unevenly if we boot him out of office and allow others, equally culpable, to remain in office, if not to seek high dignities?
FR RANI AQUINO: IMPEACHMENT: Should it be a political weapon? An available instrument in the prosecution of a particular political agenda, "matuwid na daan," or otherwise? That's a question for political morality. It is nothing less than the question of justice. It must be asked. It must be answered. And we went through 40 days of impeachment trial without ever a clear answer to this pivotal question.
PHILSTAR: 4 Supreme Court justices rally behind Corona- Four justices of the Supreme Court yesterday rallied behind CJ Renato Corona in his call for public accountability of government officials by agreeing to sign a waiver on the secrecy of their dollar deposits. Assoc Justices Arturo Brion, Roberto Abad, Martin Villarama Jr. and Jose Perez have taken the challenge posed by the Chief magistrate during his impeachment trial at the Senate last Friday.
Outside of court, however, the signed waiver sends a message that reverberates well beyond the halls of the Senate all the way to the walls of the Palace, rocking its self-proclaimed pillars of accountability and transparency. Amid the tremors, the President of the Republic, his appointees, and all his allies in all branches of government - all those that had initiated and supported the impeachment process in the name of good governance-- could no longer take refuge in the convenient excuse, "we are not on trial here." No excuse could be son simplistic; nothing as evasive; nothing, equally pathetic.
Corona, regardless of his diminished credibility, said the single most important statement of the proceeding: "we are all on trial here." The man who has had two by passes had the heart to authorize the opening of his bank accounts while those that had, all the while, pontificated int he name of transparency, cowered at the prospect of being judged by the very standards they self-righteously impose on others.
Got this. Forwarded (conclusion) Ladies and Gentleman, this is only about 2 things -- power and vendetta.
As it is, Noy controls practically all of gov't expect the judiciary. A vote to convict is a vote for vendetta, a vote to give Noy control everything and establish a dictatorship, effectively killing the country's democracy. Thats what this is all about.
Yet hope springs eternal. By its very nature as a political process, Impeachment can also be the senators' shining moment, as much as it could be CJ's or Noy's.
Since senators have nothing factual established to convict on -- an even if they did -- trust that they mad their decision on political lines. Lets just hope those political lines are not along vendetta, but democracy and independence.
If they convict, senators would have handed not just the judiciary -- but their own precious independence as a senate-- to Noynoy Aquino and reduce the Republic of the Philippines into a 7, 107 island-Hacienda Luisita.

Got this. Forwarded part 1: If I were Noy id be stupid to lose this game now that ive mobilized all the powers in the universe to convict CJ Corona. Thought the senate may convict him still, hes acquitted publicly already.
After Friday, any conviction will simply be the product not of truth and accountability, but of political machinations, infantile vendetta and pure and simple hypocrisy of the political establishment and its allied media who have arrogated to themselves a false sense of right and wrong and a messianic complex.
Acquitted or not, CJ's impeachment and testimony is a watershed moment, he successfully unmasked already the hypocrisy and administration. Noy's possible small victory maybe the start of his losing the war.

Got this. Forwarded part 2: CJ came clean while others, including those who would convict him, could very well be guilty of the same offenses. This is unprecedented where the powers of the gov't were used for vendetta. Other presidents have used the powers of the gov't to preserve themselves, but noy went on the offensive with it all fro vendetta for his enemies.
Renato Corona - ironically, the accused- whether acquitted or convicted, has turned the tables on his accusers. He may be defeated in court but outside of it he has produced "evidence", blanket and damning, against those without the same gumption to affix their signatures on a similar waiver. In the same court of public opinion where they had previously trotted around with their moralizing, at worst, these "guardians of morality" have just been charged equal guilty for non-full disclosure and at best, proven without an iota of doubt, guilt for supreme hypocrisy.

N. Jacinto for DZRH 810 AM live from the floor of the Impeachment Court:
When asked straight out by Cayetano, Renato discloses he has around 2.4 million US Dollars. This is roughly 90 million pesos now. But it didn't start as a 90 million peso deposit . It has gone up depending on the interest and exchange rates over the last 35 years since Corona was still in the Private Sector and not yet in government, much less the Chief Justice. He has paid no mortgage for 45 years as he own his house free and clear inherited from his mother. The Corona family has lived frugally and saved for 45 years and this amount is his accumulated savings.
Corona and his family live on his salary and daily income for daily expenses. All investments in bank accounts with varying interest and exchange rates over the years have not been touched or spent. Hence the amount.
