TRIBUNE: Arroyo charged with plunder; 'Dark day for rule of law' - GMA camp - Plunder charges have been filed before the Sandiganbayan against former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and officials of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and Commission on Audit (COA) for the alleged misuse of PCSO intelligence funds during her administration. The camp of Arroyo, however, said the new accusation was devoid of merit, adding it was "another dark day for the rule of law." It was just part of a campaign that President Aquino has been running against Arroyo, his chief political opponent, Arroyo's lawyer Anacleto Diaz said in a statement.

INQUIRER: About time you quit blaming Arroyo, militants tell Aquino Entering his third year in office, President Benigno Aquino  can no longer point to his favorite scapegoat, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and continue to blame her for the country's woes. Mr. Aquino himself should account for his administration's lapses and shortcomings when he delivers his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, according to Renato Reyes of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, an umbrella organization of militants groups. Blaming Arroyo for the problems is a tired, old refrain, he said.

ABS-CBN NEWS: Filed in time for SONA?
In a statement, Anacleto Diaz, a lawyer of Mrs. Arroyo, said it appears the case was filed in time for President Aquino's State of the Nation Address (SONA) next week. "This is another dark day for the rule of law. In the past, cases were decided solely on the basis of evidence adduced on record...It appears that the case was filed against the former President to time it with President's forthcoming SONA in which he will be accorded another opportunity to pillory and demonize the former President, and worse, justify her further detention without bail even as a Petition for her bail is precisely pending resolution in the court," he said. "We will avail of all even  as we stand ready to prove that the present charges against her are devoid of merit."

ANC: Manoling Morato: As if there is no corruption now. The fact remains na lumalaki ang kahirapan ngayon. That means there is more corruption now.

ANC: Arroyo lawyer Butch Diaz: Plunder case against former president baseless, and part of Aquino's political persecution. Diaz tells ANC, "Sabi nila there's no evidence showing that any part of the PCSO's intel funds was received by Arroyo, or was used for any project she was sponsoring at that time. So it appears na itong kaso was filed to time it with Aquino's forthcoming SONA, where he will again have the opportunity to demonize the former president."
