GMA7 - DZBB: Shootout in NBI compound, one NBI agent dead
- An agent of the National Bureau of Investigation was shot dead following a shootout with a jail warden inside the NBI compound in Manila before dawn Tuesday. The slain agent was initially identified at the Philippine General Hospital morgue as Honoranto Ocampo, 43, radio dzBB's Rolando Bola reported.

Aquino is still in full-time mourning mode for his deceased secretary, which is why, his grieving spokesmen say, he cannot be bothered to appoint a replacement for Robredo. (He could, however, name his schoolmate, Maria Lourdes Sereno, chief justice of the Supreme Court while deep in bereavement.) The entire Cabinet had followed suit. And like many of them did when they were still serving in the Arroyo Cabinet, they burst into song in honor of Robredo, belting out a karaoke version of "Betcha By Golly Wow" beside their dead comrade's coffin.

Aquino cannot be dissuaded from mourning Robredo, nearly two weeks since his unloved (by his boss and his colleagues) subordinate was reported missing. And the President has to repeatedly - and belatedly - extol the virtues of a man whom he never trusted enough to head up an entire department when he was alive. If he were alive today, Robredo would probably be tempted to apply his TSINELAS on the faces of his official mourners. Except that, because he was such a great and humble man, he probably never would.

INQUIRER: Senator Antonio Trillanes wants the country's national sports associations to replace Philippine Olympic Committee chair Jose "Peping" Cojuangco, Jr. weeks after the Philippines once again failed to win a medal in the recently concluded Olympic Games in London. Trillanes, the chair of the  Senate committee on amateur sports competitiveness, minced no words in showing his disappointment with the POC chair and called Cojuangco "the greatest stumbling block to sports development [in the country]."

TRIBUNE: CoA chief bares P30-B anomalies in DWSD, BOC - At the budget briefing of the state audit agency, CoA Chairman Grace Pulido-Tan said audit findings revealed that the BoC issued P26 BILLION in illegal refunds of Customs duties and taxes in 2011, well DURING the Aquino administration, which was more that double the P12 billion refunds incurred in 2010. Pulido-Tan also bared COA audits finding UNACCOUNTED "over-the-counter" disbursement of 3.77  billion for the CCT being implemented by the DSWD, under Sec Dinky Soliman.
