BUSINESSWORLD: TARGET LIKELY TO BE MISSED AS EXPORTS FALL - MERCHANDISE exports took a dive in August -- the weakest performance in eight months -- weighed down by a strong peso and a sustained drop on outbound electronics shipments. Export declined by 9% to 3.80 billion from $4.17 billion a year ago, the National Statistics Office reported. This was after gains for four consecutive months.
BUSINESS WORLD: PROF BEN DIOKNO
The economic outlook for the Philippines is one of decelerating growth. The second quarter growth was lower than the first quarter growth. For the World Bank's full year GDP growth of 5% to be achieved, the economy has to grow 3.9%, and for ADB's full-year GDP growth of 5.5%, it has to grow 4.9%. Both second-half forecasts are lower than the government's full year forecast of 5% to 6%.
ANC: Filipino activists in New York hold silent protest at PH Consulate, to denounce Aquino's cybercrime law. They call RA-10175 "e-martial law."
CGMA ISSUE AND THE OMBUDSMAN-it is not about the merits of the case as nothing else will matter. it is MORE on the type of case that has to be filed against the former president. even if she's accused of jaywalking, the case has to be UPGRADED TO PLUNDER (no matter what) or any non-bailable offense, so a WARRANT of ARREST can be issued and keep her under detention. it is not about whether she's guilty or not. it is about exacting vengeance and the independent institutions, as we can see, are only too happy to follow the dictates of an all too powerful president.
PHILSTAR: CORRUPTION PERVASIVE UNDER AQUINO ADMINISTRATION
Former national treasurer Leonor Briones claimed that corruption has worsened and is pervasive as ever under Aquino administration. Briones said that the report of the COA regarding losses in the national treasury of P101-B showed that portion of the unaccounted funds was spent during the term of President Aquino.
ANC: Sandiganbayan resets arroyo hearing for arroyo motion for hospital arrest. Says defense should present witnesses and evidence to support arroyo camp's claim that she needs to remain hospitalized.
INQUIRER: Doctors at the VMMC on Wednesday deferred the discharge from the hospital of former President and now Pamp Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, citing the need for further tests. VMMC director Dr. Nona Legaspi, in a text message, told the Inquirer that Arroyo's potassium level remained low. Results of the blood tests conducted on Tuesday on Arroyo showed her "serum potassium: is still low. "We have to investigate further and still do some test," Legaspi said. According to the VMMC director, Arroyo is not yet ready to be discharged from the medical facility.
PHILSTAR: UNA TO SANDIGAN: MAKE PUBLIC PROBE ON VIP TREATMENT FOR PADACA, MAR - UNA Secretary Toby Tiangco said a bailiff, supposedly on orders from a justice, allowed Roxas and Padaca to use the basement parking at the Sandiganbayan, which is not open to the public. Tiangco said the privilege of using the basement parking, which is exclusive for Sandiganbayan justices, is not even accorded to former presidents and other ranking government officials. "Such a policy is meant to show that the court recognizes neither rank nor power but only the strength of the evidence presented   before it," he said.
PHILSTAR: GMA still in pain
- According to the director of VMMC, Arroyo is still in pain and the scheduled exam to determine if her potassium level had normalized was not done on Tuesday as planned because of this. "We had to defer taking her blood for potassium determination due to pain," Nona Legaspi said yesterday. Legaspi said they were going to try to take the blood sample if the former president got better.
PHILSTAR: The Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 112 has et aside a motion of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to postpone the pre-trial of Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to Jan. 31 next year and scheduled it on Nov. 15 and 22. "The Oct 25 schedule was reset to allow the Comelec to finish its electoral duties, but the pre-trial will proceed as scheduled," Felda Domingo, court spokesperson, said yesterday. Pre-trial hearings are also scheduled on Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 next year.
PHILSTAR: 6 MILLION PINOY CHILDREN MALNOURISHED - UN REPORT
The United Nations has reported that an estimated six million Filipino children are malnourished, 60,000 of them are vulnerable to sexual exploitation, while at least 66 percent under the age of six do not have childcare.
TRIBUNE: At their weekly press briefing, House Min Leader, Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez said it would be best if Mrs. Arroyo is allowed to stay at the VMMC where she was also placed under hospital arrest from December last year to July this year over allegations of electoral sabotage, as the former leader is undergoing therapy at least thrice a week at the said gov't medical facility. "How can you place her in a regular jail considering she is undergoing therapy almost everyday?" Suarez said. Can you imagine the security problem it would entail in moving her from one place to another everyday?" the Quezon solon added. "Anyway, she cannot escape."
TRIBUNE: ADB: NOT ENOUGH JOBS UNDER AQUINO - The local economy may be growing but not enough jobs are being created "to link economic growth to poverty reduction," the ADB said in a report released yesterday. The ADB in its update of Asian Development Outlook 2012 noted that despite the number of new jobs growing by 1 million over the past year, it only slightly exceeded in the labor force, and mainly reflected a rise in part time employment with 1.5 million positions created. "Full-time jobs fell by 500,000 in the same period."
Dzmm reporter:
ANC: Arroyo camp confident Sandiganbayan will allow hospital arrest for the former president. Atty. Raul Lambino says a hospital arrest means less trouble for gov't to bring CGMA to hospital from a detention facility and back if she has to go therapy.
ANC: Farmers threaten to file crimes against humanity vs Aquino, Philex over mine spill in Benguet
ANC: Alliance of health workers hits aquino's RN's heals program as nothing but sugar coated contractualization scheme aimed at dismissing nurses after a year in service.
