Legitimation does not have to do with numbers. It has to do with reason. The impeachment process is supposed to be an exercise in reason, and there are many who are endeavoring to keep it that way. The Senate President, for one, has each day, given himself, to the point of fatigue, to the task of maintaining the rationality of discourse. The demagogue will ignore the difference between what people want ( a question of numbers) and what the better argument establishes to be the right thing to do. That is why demagoguery cares little about justice, obsessed as it is with popular acceptance.
