MANILA STANDARD: Lower remittances seen REMITTANCES, the economy's saving grace last year as a result of the government's lackluster spending, will grow more slowly this year because of the economic crisis abroad, the World Bank says. The money sent home by the Filipinos abroad fuel household spending, supports the services sector, and keeps the country's balance of payments in surplus. But the volumes will increase by only 3 percent this year and 5 percent next year, slower than the 6-percent growth projected last year, the Bank says.
