PHILSTAR: ERNIE MACEDA - MORE HUNGRY CITIZENS... Confirming SWS surveys, of high levels of hungry people in the country, the Washington based International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) reported that the Global Hunger Index (GHI) in the Philippines INCREASED from 11.5% in 2011 to 12.2% in 2012. The IFPRI report came on the heels of a United Nations study that 6 million Filipino children are malnourished. A related statistic is the fact that the 2.9 million Filipinos are unemployed and 8.5 million are underemployed.
