BUSINESSWORLD: Liquor companies question constitutionality of 'sin' tax law
The new law that raised excise taxes on tobacco and alcohol products has been legally challenged by liquor manufacturers who complained of "DOUBLE TAXATION." Republic Act (RA) No. 10351 "...would have a very adverse effect on petitioners in the Philippines as they might forced to reduce or worse, to cease their manufacturing operations in the Philippines," the groups stated in a 30-page petition against the 'sin' tax law filed with the Manila Regional Trial Court last Monday.
