PHILSTAR: Comelec confirms case vs Lanto
- The Comelec yesterday confirmed that newly appointed commissioner Macabangkit Lanto has a pending case before the poll body. Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said the commission is set to discuss and rule on the case filed against Lanto in connection with the 2007 elections. Brillantes said based on the case, Lanto allegedly coerced a member of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) in Lanao del Sur.

MLA STANDARD: ALVIN CAPINO - We recall that Hontiveros even launched a multimillion pesos advertising campaign to push the RH bill. The TV ad campaign was also meant to boost her senatorial candidacy. So many people have asked Hontiveros at that time where the millions for her RH advocacy TV ad campaign were coming from. We don;t recall her revealing the source of the money for TV ads. There is no clear answer on the guesses that the money could have come from pharmaceutical companies or from international agencies pushing population control in third-world countries like the Philippines.

MANILA TIMES: AFTER admitting that it had NO idea that newly appointed Comelec Comm Macabangkit  Lanto had a "tainted" background, the next best thing for Malacañang to do is to withdraw the commissioner's appointment in the poll body. Rep. Tobias "Toby" Tiangco of Navotas City, sec general and campaign manager of the UNA, also said that Sen. Franklin Drilon should apologize to Pres Benigno Aquino 3rd for putting the chief executive in an embarrassing situation.

- Former Pres Fidel V. Ramos advised Pres Benigno Aquino III to soften his stance and hear out the grievances of Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III in connection with the claim over Sabah. The former pres also said Aquino should not waste precious minutes - amid growing death toll in Sabah - also in tapping the help of country's neighbors in the ASEAN in particular the BIMP-East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

GMA NEWS: Meralco: Customers to eventually pay for new info system costing P32M
- Manila Electric Co. said in its application for a provisional authority from the Energy Regulatory Commission that the customer information system (CIS) it wants to put in place will cost P325.243 million, which its client will pay for later on.

TRIBUNE: Noy's resolute action sought on Sabah strife - Mindanao bishops called on Aquino to support the United Nations' (UN) appeal for an immediate end of the violence in North Borneo. In a statement titled "Save our people - with honor," the bishops also appealed for the government to resume diplomatic work to resolve propriety and the sovereignty questions, "a task historically entrusted to the government by the Sultanate of Sulu, and thus to ensure the withdrawal with honor of armed forces from the area."

The KMU condemns the COMELEC for being a vulgar lackey of the Aquino government's systematic campaign against party-list and candidates.

ANC: KONTRA DAYA: Atty. Lanto should follow Atty. Sardillo and decline his Comelec appointment due to issues related to election fraud. What kind of credibility will Comelec have if one of its commissioners has a record of being removed from office due to poll fraud? It's simply untenable. Seems like Pres. Aquino merely accepted the recommendation of LP party-mate Sen. Drilon despite the consequences of having a tainted official in a crucial agency.
