ABS-CBN: Why joblessness remains high despite stellar growth
- The economy may have grown a surprising 7.1% in the third quarter but this did not translate to more jobs, a non-government organization claimed, even noting the country's unemployment rate was relatively HIGHER than that of its Southeast Asian peers. MLA STANDARD: ALVIN CAPINO - DOUBLE STANDARDS IN 'TUWID NA DAAN': What makes the Naguiat defense difficult in the fact that last Sept. 5, 2012 Pagcor imposed a six-month suspension on Roberto Dueñas, the branch surveillance officer of Casino Filipino-Angeles, for "unauthorized use, operation, possession or lending of company property for personal use."
MLA STANDARD: ALVIN CAPINO - DOUBLE STANDARDS IN 'TUWID NA DAAN'
The exclusive ABS-CBN report documenting the use by Pagcor Chairman and CEO Cristino "Bong" Naguiat Jr. of a luxury vehicle owned by Pagcor as a "school bus" service for his son. Even Malacañang's very capable spokesmen might have a hard time defending Naguiat on this scandal where there is video proof that Naguiat has used a Pagcor luxury vehicle, driven by a Pagcor-paid driver, and using Pagcor-purchased gasoline as a "school bus" for his son and his "yaya".
MLA STANDARD: ENRILE CITES ARROYO'S GROWTH CONTRIBUTIONS
Sen. Pres. Juan Ponce Enrile on Thursday said the accelerated growth of the Philippine economy should be credited NOT only to the present administration but ALSO to the previous administration of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Enrile noted that the report from the NSCB which said the the economy grew by 7.1% in the 3rd quarter of 2012, the highest in Southeast Asia, was a combined result of the efforts of the two administrations. The Sen. Pres. said IT WAS ARROYO who instituted the economic policies that are being CONTINUED by the administration of Pres. Benigno Aquino III.
govt should explain: with govt crowing about the GDP's surge to 7.1% - the reports say that 2.8 million Filipinos remain unemployed while 8.5 million are underemployed. without income, hunger is next. growing remittances cannot be an achievement of the govt - it is attributed to an ever increasing Filipinos seeking jobs abroad since none are offered here. BPOs and OFW remittances are not permanent as they are directly related to an ailing world economy. bottom line is the scarcity of food on the table and not "feel-good releases."
